Say Please

)
I found the T-shirt that you used to wear
in the back of my 63 chevy
and it smelled of leaves and lemonade
just how you left it for me
And as I go through the things
that we cared so much about
I can't believe that it ever seemed
like the future was ever in doubt
I never bothered to see
the darkness between the seems
and you did your best to shield
me from the pain of your dreams
And I never had to say please
never had to grovel or get down on my knees
You always took it in stride
Even though I could see it in your eyes
Now when I look back
and I see how much pain you were in
I can't forgive myself
for how I let it end
